Information about the coffee and farm in Nicaragua:
Michael Boudreau and Ana Narvaez have purchased a small coffee farm as a way to support their family and work in Nicaragua. The farm is located about 45 minutes southwest of Managua in a rural town called "La Paz" ("Peace" in English). It is shade grown coffee, so the farm is a woodlot of about two acres. La Paz is where Ana's mother, Eva and father, Pedro grew up, met, and where they raised 8 of their 11 children. Almost 30 years ago, before Ana was born, Eva and Pedro left La Paz and moved to the capital, Managua, where Pedro found work. Eva and Pedro still have all their family in La Paz and have always dreamed of returning.
After Michael and Ana bought the farm in La Paz, Eva and Pedro, now retired, quickly moved out there to look after the land. They built a small, traditional thatched roof hut for their living quarters. Ana's brothers, Henry and Carlos are also living on the land.
Michael and Ana bought the piece of land in order to fulfill Eva and Pedro's dream of returning to La Paz. They also bought the land in hopes of generating sustainable income in order to support themselves and Ana's family. The farm includes shade grown coffee, cashew and olive trees, as well as citrus, banana, plantain, and avocado trees that they have planted. Everything on the farm is organically grown.
